Arlene Watson - Executive Director

Arlene Watson is from Toronto and has always had a love of the piano. Her formal training began at age four and she very quickly progressed to completing the requirements for The Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 8 Examination at the age of nine years old. Arlene studied under the tutelage of Clifford Poole and Margaret Parsons at the RCM. She was on scholarship for a number of years there and entered many music competitions, performing on many stages. She also took up the violin, cello and organ. Arlene went on to a career teaching piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music for 20 years before deciding to open her own music school.
She is the Director of the Etobicoke Conservatory of Music and holds an ARCT in Piano Performance from The Royal Conservatory of Music, with studies in Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze Eurythmics at the University of Toronto.
Arlene works closely with RCM Examinations and is the Examination Representative for the Etobicoke Centre. As such she is the contact person for examination candidates, their parents and teachers in the community. |

Ashley Summers

Ashley Summers has collected musical experiences and opportunities that reach well beyond her years, and her talents have brought her to stages all over the world. As a member of IAJE’s Sisters In Jazz Quintet in 2003, she performed at the Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Festival in Washington, DC, as well as such legendary festivals as Jazz a Vienne in France, the North Sea Jazz Festival in Amsterdam, and the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy.
More recently, Ashley has been busy touring with Cleveland-based saxophonist Bobby Selvaggio, playing such celebrated clubs as Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philadephia, Andy’s in Chicago, and the Cleveland Bop Stop.Aside from keeping a busy performance schedule, Ashley is also an in-demand educator. She currently serves as director for IAJE Canada's Jazzmobile, which places professional jazz musicians in Toronto schools to motivate, educate and inspire young musicians. After spending some time exploring the jazz scene in Paris, she is currently based in Toronto, working on new music and planning Jazzmobile’s 2010 tour. |

James Armstrong

James Armstrong is from Toronto and has been on faculty at ECM since 1998. He teaches both acoustic and electric guitar to children as well as adults. James teaches Classical, Pop, Folk, Rock and Blues Guitar. He has an affinity for teaching jazz improvisation and as well is on the Piano faculty.
James first studied Classical Guitar with Robert Hamilton and Piano at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He then pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University, majoring in Composition and World Music.
Private teachers include Jazz Piano and Composition with Frank Falco and contemporary classical guitar with Brian Katz.
James traveled extensively in South America for a number of years where he taught English and subsequently is fluent in Spanish.

Nevin Dunn

|
Nevin Dunn is a professional saxophone player from Nova Scotia, who is now based in Toronto. His style of performing includes Jazz, Rock, R&B, and Funk.
With a background in classical piano, he studied at the Berklee College of Music, Boston MA, on a full scholarship. Nevin's experience has taken him to Cuba promoting music education and performance through cultural exchange in local music schools on behalf of "Las Primos Project". More recently Nevin majored in saxophone at Humber College in the Bachelor of Applied Music program.
His mentors include Pat Labarbera, Jeff Goodspeed, Chris Mitchell, Mark Promane and Alex Dean. He has performed in venues across Canada, including the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival and the Ottawa Jazz Festival with the Summit Big Band 2009. |

Barton Wigg

|
Barton Wigg played guitar in a rock band as a teenager in Montreal. He went on to study Classical Guitar with Carol van Feggelen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where he subsequently taught for over twenty years.
Barton also studied guitar theory and systems with Tony Bradan and improvisation with Jazz Fluegelhorn player and composer Fred Stone. He holds a Master of Theological Studies degree from Tyndale Seminary, where he focused his studies on languages and choral conducting. Barton has played in and conducted numerous ensembles, performing in styles ranging from Rock to Classical, Flamenco and World Music. He has worked in theatre, providing incidental music for Toronto Workshop Productions and, in collaboration with Canadian Composer Pierre Gallant, for Open Circle Theatre. Barton's passion in teaching is to help students, of all ages, to discover the musical creative spark within them and to develop and express it for their own and others enjoyment. |

Laura Ono

Laura Ono holds an ARCT in piano performance and is a graduate of the Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Music Education (ECME) program from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Ryerson University. With more than 18 years of combined music performance and teaching experience, Laura is an enthusiastic and committed music educator, working with children and parents to instill a love of music and music learning.
Laura is also a seasoned marketing and communications professional with a Master of Business Administration from York University, and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Ottawa.
Presently Laura is a member of an eight-person Japanese taiko drumming ensemble. They perform traditional and contemporary works in various venues in Toronto. She speaks conversational French and Cantonese.

Lorienne Swales

Lorienne Swales was born in Derby, England and began her musical education there in piano at the age of 6.
Lorienne holds an ARCT in Voice Performance from The Royal Conservatory of Music and LTCL from Trinity College, London England. She is currently pursuing the Fellowship from Trinity College. In addition, she has grade 8 Piano from the Royal Conservatory and Level 2 in Kodaly.
Lorienne has won scholarships from RCM, Canadian National Exhibition, Contemporary Showcase and the Aspen School of Music in Colorado.
Some of her Opera roles have included “San Tuzza” in Cavalleria Rusticana, “Leonora” from Il Trovatore, and “Tosca” from the opera Tosca with JHS Opera. Pantomime roles include Prince Charming from Cinderella and Gretchen in Mother Goose.
Lorienne has performed in solo recitals with Victoria Royce Presbyterian Church in their Recital Series. She has been a Soprano Soloist in a number of churches in Toronto and has 11 years experience teaching private vocal lessons as well as Choral Director. |
