Music for Early Childhood Programs:

The Music for Early Childhood program provides quality musical experiences to infants and children ages 0-5 years. Classes are designed to meet the developmental needs of children by providing a variety of experiences in key learning domains: language, social, emotional and physical. We achieve this through a repertoire of traditional nursery rhymes and songs, as well as music based on folk heritage.

During the early years, musical learning is primarily experienced-based, with focused opportunities to explore the elements of music such as rhythm, beat, melody, dynamics, form, timbre and harmony. Classes are taught in a playful and interactive environment which will inspire your child and awaken the music within.

Meet Your Music Teacher

Laura Ono holds an ARCT in piano performance and is a graduate of the Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Music Education (ECME) program from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Ryerson University. With more than 18 years of combined music performance and teaching experience, Laura is an enthusiastic and committed music educator, working with children and parents to instill a love of music and music learning.

Class Descriptions and Schedule

Depending on the age of your child, classes are designed to be attended with a parent/caregiver, or independently. Note: Children must be the appropriate age by October 1, 2009.

Babies, 0-12 Months (Infant & parent/caregiver)
In these classes, the teacher will present a selection of traditional rhymes, songs and movement games that encourages “one-on-one” interaction with your baby, creating a warm and happy beginning to the world of music.

Tots, 12-24 Months (Infant & parent/caregiver)
As your baby becomes more mobile, familiar rhymes and songs will become a new experience. New musical materials as well as “old favorites” will be presented to encourage active participation.

Toddlers: 24-36 Months (Toddler & parent/caregiver)
These active and energetic children will delight in moving, singing and playing instruments on their own. Parents and caregivers become musical role models as they explore the elements of music with their child.

Pre-schooler: 3 years (Child & parent/caregiver)
As your child moves toward independence, this fun-filled class will focus on developing speech, singing, movement and rhythmic skills through songs and games.

Pre-schooler: 4 years (Independent Child) Saturday Only
These inquisitive children will be inspired to express themselves through creative movement, along with activities designed to practice musical skills. Musical games and ensemble singing/instrument playing are a part of each class, which promote social skills such as turn taking and cooperation.

Pre-schooler: 5 years (Independent Child) Saturday Only
As your child gains more body awareness and control, activities become more challenging in order to refine musical skills and develop in-tune singing. Toward the end of the course, children will be introduced to musical concepts in preparation for instrumental music instruction.

We have been coming to the conservatory for three years and my children and I feel truly blessed to be a part of it. The instructors are encouraging and engaging and have helped to develop their appreciation of music. We are forever grateful for the positive experience we have been given but most importantly for the music"
