Children's Chorus: (for children ages 6 and up)

Designed for the budding young vocalist wanting to learn in a fun and supportive class setting. Singers will learn healthy singing technique, breathing and ear training using the Kodaly Method. This method is an approach to music education developed in Hungary during the mid 20th century.

Kodály was of the opinion that, in order for a child to fully realize his or her musical potential, it is necessary to begin musical training at an early age.

Kodály believed that, to be effective, musical learning must begin with singing. To reinforce new rhythmic concepts, the Kodály Method uses a variety of rhythmic movements, such as walking, running, marching, and clapping. These may be performed while listening to music or singing.

Choral Director Lorienne Swales comes with many years of experience directing choirs and teaching private vocal lessons. She will also use creative movement, singing games and theory to complete this comprehensive class. Repertoire will include music from many different nationalities.

A number of performances will be scheduled such as ECM Recitals. All choristers will be expected to perform, as each child is important to the group as a whole.

Class Time: Thursday 5:30 – 6:30

Beginning September 24, 2009 to May 13, 2010.

Fee: $450.00

"I had called a few schools before landing on ECM. After my first conversation with Arlene Watson, I knew that this was the perfect environment for my daughter - warm, happy and professional. My daughter's love of music has expanded from guitar to piano thanks to the great teachers at ECM. I even recommended them to a friend who's son had lost interest in piano.  After a few sessions with Arlene he is excited again about his lessons. I couldn't say anything more about this school - it is just great and I'm lucky it's in the neighbourhood."
